It helps improve long-term <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/20\/nyregion\/loneliness-epidemic.html\" title>physical and mental health<\/a> and can enhance daily <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/00936502221139363\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">well-being<\/a>. But there\u2019s evidence our social circles are shrinking. In 1990, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.americansurveycenter.org\/research\/the-state-of-american-friendship-change-challenges-and-loss\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">3 percent of Americans<\/a> said they had no close friends; in 2021, that number jumped to 12 percent. Around <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/15-11-2023-who-launches-commission-to-foster-social-connection\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">much of the world<\/a>, people are in the middle of a well-documented <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/05\/02\/well\/mind\/loneliness-isolation-surgeon-general.html\" title>loneliness crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-daiqw4 evys1bk0\">The good news is, experts say, it\u2019s relatively easy to improve your friendships.
