The trend is more pronounced for girls from minority groups and those from lower-income backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The findings add to growing evidence suggesting that some girls around the world are <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/19\/science\/early-puberty-medical-reason.html\" title>hitting puberty earlier<\/a> in life \u2014 a shift that researchers say is associated with negative health outcomes later in life but one that still can\u2019t be fully explained. Several studies have consistently found that the decline in age seems to be steepest among <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12359816\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">racial minority groups<\/a>, girls from <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4170010\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">lower socioeconomic groups<\/a> and those who have <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/bmcpediatr.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/1471-2431-3-3\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">higher B.M.I.s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIn pediatric practice, there\u2019s been kind of a trend toward just assuming that Black girls go through puberty earlier. But what\u2019s going on and how?
