Rabbits appear frequently at the New York Botanical Garden<\/a>. The one that the public will soon see there, however, isn\u2019t a typical little brown cottontail. About 12 feet tall, this creature will hold a pocket watch and have fur made of cream-colored Sedum foliage, a waistcoat of yellowy-green Sedum and a maroon jacket of Alternanthera leaves.<\/p>\n

But he\u2019s not late for a very important date. Created by the Canadian company Mosa\u00efcultures Internationales de Montr\u00e9al<\/a>, this White Rabbit will be right on time for the festive May 18 opening of \u201cWonderland: Curious Nature<\/a>,\u201d an exhibition inspired by Lewis Carroll\u2019s books \u201cAlice\u2019s Adventures in Wonderland\u201d and \u201cThrough the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There.\u201d<\/p>\n

What visitors will find, the garden\u2019s staff hopes, is their own adventure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In the exhibition, \u201cyou\u2019re caught out and drawn into something that\u2019s out of your ordinary experience,\u201d Jennifer R. Gross, the show\u2019s guest curator, said during a behind-the-scenes visit with the project\u2019s creative team. For adults as well as children, she added, the spectacle offers \u201ca lot of different moments, where they can hopefully get pleasantly unsettled.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

That pleasant unsettling will occur indoors and outdoors at this Bronx public garden, as the exhibition explores Carroll\u2019s fictional and real worlds through fantastical plants, Victorian artifacts and modern artworks.<\/p>\n

Overlooking the Rockefeller Rose Garden<\/a>, Yoko Ono<\/a>\u2019s large-scale interactive chess set, \u201cPlay It by Trust<\/a>\u201d (1966\/2011), recalls the living chess pieces in \u201cThrough the Looking Glass,\u201d but its all-white form makes competitive play virtually impossible.<\/p>\n
