Songs about a little guy that lives in a blue world (<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=68ugkg9RePc\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Da Ba Dee Da Ba Di).<\/a> Or the rage-inducing abject failure of the Windows computer in front of us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In other words, the Blue Screen of Death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">And now, the world is set to bid a fond farewell to a generation\u2019s most feared and notable error message, as Microsoft announced on Thursday that the screen was being officially replaced by a less friendly but more efficient Black Screen of Death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The simplified screen, Microsoft said in a blog post, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/windowsexperience\/2025\/06\/26\/the-windows-resiliency-initiative-building-resilience-for-a-future-ready-enterprise\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">would roll out later this summer<\/a>, and \u201cimproves readability and aligns better with Windows 11 design principles, while preserving the technical information on the screen for when it is needed.\u201d A new message \u2014 in white lettering \u2014 is slated to say, \u201cYour device ran into a problem and needs to restart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">For more than three decades, Windows has denoted some sort of serious crash or slow down in its system with a blue screen. An early version of the message was written by <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/08\/20\/technology\/citing-outside-duties-steven-ballmer-resigns-from-microsofts-board.html\" title>the former chief executive<\/a>, Steve Ballmer, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20240730-00\/?p=110062\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">according to Raymond Chen<\/a>, a longtime Microsoft programmer. All of them were blue by coincidence, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/oldnewthing\/20170926-00\/?p=97085\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">according to a blog post by Mr. Chen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The change to a black screen comes in the wake of last year\u2019s outage generated by the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.
