While this data only shows a correlation and cannot prove that marijuana caused these effects, it is well-established that the drug can <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/cannabis\/health-effects\/heart-health.html\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">raise blood pressure<\/a> and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00213-008-1260-2\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">heart rate<\/a> and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2666501824003660\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">alter the heart\u2019s rhythm<\/a>, said Dr. Ersilia DeFilippis, a cardiologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. And a number of other studies have also suggested a link between the drug and cardiovascular issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The analysis comes at a time when nearly half of U.S. states have legalized marijuana for recreational use, and when a record share of U.S. adults \u2014 <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/74\/wr\/mm7412a1.htm\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">15 percent<\/a> in 2022 \u2014 report using it.
