He likened Mr. Trump\u2019s move to a \u201cstarting gun\u201d in the race to extract minerals like cobalt and nickel from potato-size nodules lying in the frigid, pitch-black, two-and-a-half-mile-deep sands of the Pacific Ocean floor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Republican and Democratic committee members clashed over how much weight should be given to <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/25\/climate\/seafloor-mining-science.html\" title>environmental concerns<\/a> about the practice.
