For a moment, widespread anxiety about a potential $2,000 iPhone dissipated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">But two days later, the Trump administration said <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/13\/us\/politics\/trump-tariffs-china-chips-technology.html\" title>smartphones and computers were likely to be hit<\/a> with new tariffs targeting semiconductors, or chips. More expensive iPhones could come after all! Talk about whiplash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Don\u2019t panic.
