Are the drugs\u2019 benefits worth their enormous cost?<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The answer right now is no, according to a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama-health-forum\/fullarticle\/10.1001\/jamahealthforum.2024.5586?guestAccessKey=b300fc51-4636-44f0-a17a-8b915639bc50&amp;utm_source=for_the_media&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=ftm_links&amp;utm_content=tfl&amp;utm_term=031425\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">new study<\/a> published on Friday in the journal JAMA Health Forum, by researchers at the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">To be considered cost effective by a common measure used by health economists, the price of Novo Nordisk\u2019s Wegovy would need to be cut by over 80 percent, to $127 per month, the researchers concluded. And Eli Lilly\u2019s Zepbound would be cost effective only if its price fell by nearly a third, to $361 per month.
