Her goal, she said, was to \u201cstart releasing the stigma and the shame and the judgment\u201d around weight and weight loss \u2014 starting with her own, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cFor 25 years, making fun of my weight was national sport,\u201d Ms. Winfrey said in the show, titled \u201cAn Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Shame has become a focal point in that conversation as new drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro, which are widely used for weight loss, shift how people think about treating obesity. When Ms. Winfrey <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/12\/13\/well\/oprah-winfrey-weight-loss-medication.html\" title>disclosed in December<\/a> that she was taking a medication to manage her weight, she said she was \u201cdone with the shaming\u201d that had followed her through decades of dieting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Many patients who start taking these medications say they have felt shamed for struggling with their weight, and then shamed for taking weight loss drugs, said Dr. Michelle Hauser, the obesity medicine director of the Stanford Lifestyle and Weight Management Center, who was not involved with the special.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cPeople just are constantly getting this message, both internal bias and then external bias from other people,\u201d she said.
