She is sitting in an officer chair and there is a medical bed behind her.\" class=\"sc-a34861b-0 efFcac\" \/><span class=\"sc-a34861b-2 hesJxn\">Getty Images<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">The hike in national insurance contributions (NICs) set for April will see some Northern Ireland GP practices going under if the government does not provide a bail-out, according to a senior doctor.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">The Royal College of GPs in Northern Ireland (RCGP) told Stormont&#8217;s Public Accounts Committee the move could be &#8220;catastrophic&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Employers currently pay a rate of 13.8% on employees&#8217; earnings above a threshold of \u00a39,100 a year.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">In the Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said this rate would increase to 15% in April 2025, and the threshold would be reduced to \u00a35,000.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">The DUP MLA, Diane Forsythe, said she had received information back from the Department of Health that the cost of NICs to doctors, dentists and pharmacists in Northern Ireland could be about \u00a335m.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure>\n<div data-component=\"image-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 jFCfG\">\n<div data-testid=\"image\" class=\"sc-a34861b-1 jxzoZC\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/medexperts.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-a34861b-0 cOpVbP hide-when-no-script\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/medexperts.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1921e150-f534-11ef-a161-d137c0587442.jpg.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A red haired woman with a black long sleeve top, wears a yellow lanyard. There&#8217;s nobody coming to bail out an independent contractor practice. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">&#8220;The bail-out is that the contract goes back.
