It found that about one in nine U.S. residents used supplements to enhance their immune systems between January 2017 and March 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt comes up all the time,\u201d said Dr. Michael Ben-Aderet, the associate medical director of hospital epidemiology at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles who wasn\u2019t involved with the study. \u201cThere\u2019s really this sense of people trying to optimize their health.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"Dropzone-1\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\" data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Many people also used the supplements without a doctor\u2019s recommendation, the researchers found.
