Hasan Merali, an associate professor of pediatrics at McMaster University and a pediatric emergency room physician, has treated thousands of patients between the ages of 1 and 5. In his book, \u201cSleep Well, Take Risks, Squish the Peas: Secrets From the Science of Toddlers for a Happier, More Successful Way of Life,\u201d he writes that this group has an undeserved bad reputation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cA term I dislike very much is \u2018terrible twos,\u2019\u201d Dr. Merali told me. \u201cOr \u2018three-nagers.\u2019 Can you imagine if we labeled another age group like this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Yes, he said, toddlers have tantrums, but <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK544286\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">research suggests<\/a> that they occur, on average, once a day, and last three minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The rest of the time, Dr. Merali said, toddlers are models of well-being.
