Europe wants to be a top contender in the race to become a world leader in artificial intelligence, but investors are concerned that it has too much red tape and that its taxes are too high.<\/p>\n

An artificial intelligence race is heating up between the United States and China \u2014 but don\u2019t count Europe out.<\/p>\n

That is the case President Emmanuel Macron of France made this week as his country hosts an A.I. summit in Paris, where government leaders, top tech executives and academic experts gathered on Monday to discuss the fears and hopes surrounding A.I technology.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a race to scale,\u201d Mr. Macron told France 2 television<\/a> on Sunday night under the soaring steel and glass roof of the Grand Palais<\/a>, the exhibition hall where France and India have teamed up to hold the summit.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we completely behind the curve? No,\u201d Mr. Macron insisted as he urged Europe to invest heavily in its own A.I. abilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe respect and want to work with the United States, we want to work with China, but we don\u2019t want to depend on anyone,\u201d he later added.<\/p>\n

Attendees at the summit, which runs through Tuesday, include Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI; Zhang Guoqing, China\u2019s vice premier; and Vice President JD Vance, who is on his first trip overseas.<\/p>\n
