He would be the 17th secretary of energy, a position that was created in 1977.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">At his <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/15\/climate\/chris-wright-energy-secretary-nominee.html\" title>confirmation hearing<\/a>, Mr. Wright said his top priority was to \u201cunleash\u201d domestic energy production, including liquefied natural gas and nuclear power.
