The company had created a new A.I. model called DeepSeek-R1, built by a team of researchers who claimed to have used a modest number of second-rate A.I. chips to match the performance of leading American A.I. models at a fraction of the cost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">DeepSeek said it had done this by using clever engineering to substitute for raw computing horsepower.
