CapCut is back in the U.S.!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">CapCut became unavailable in the country just before a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/17\/technology\/tiktok-ban-sale-supreme-court.html\" title>federal law<\/a> banning TikTok and other ByteDance apps took effect on Sunday. TikTok said that Lemon8, a sister app, began to work again around the same time as TikTok.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Apple and Google are complying with the law, which explicitly requires app store operators to stop distributing and updating ByteDance apps. TikTok, CapCut and Lemon8 were not available on either company\u2019s app store as of Tuesday afternoon in New York. The return of CapCut is significant, particularly after Instagram, which is owned by Meta, announced <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/19\/technology\/instagram-video-app-tiktok-ban.html\" title>a rival app called Edits<\/a> over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/17\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-tiktok.html\" title>federal law<\/a> concerning ByteDance said its apps would be banned in the United States if they were not sold to a non-Chinese owner by Jan. 19.
