The second thing she does is open TikTok.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt\u2019s just like this quick fix,\u201d said Ms. Kalata, 18, who lives in Minnesota. \u201cI can\u2019t take my eyes off it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Kalata spends about two and a half hours a day on TikTok, she said. She watches videos while she\u2019s eating, while she\u2019s walking on the treadmill, and while she\u2019s in bed before she goes to sleep. \u201cI feel like my phone can kind of control me at times,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t even necessarily want to go on TikTok. It\u2019s a habit, and it\u2019s something that\u2019s hard to break<em class=\"css-2fg4z9 e1gzwzxm0\">.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Kalata may have to quit cold turkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The Supreme Court on Friday <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2025\/01\/17\/us\/tiktok-ban-supreme-court\" title>backed a federal law<\/a> that would effectively ban the popular app from operating in the United States. The decision means that the app could be banned as soon as Sunday. How that might play out for TikTok\u2019s roughly 170 million U.S. users isn\u2019t yet clear.
