Globally, 741,300 cancer cases were attributable to alcohol consumption in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">But public awareness of the link is low: Only 45 percent of Americans believe alcohol has a significant effect on whether someone develops cancer, according to <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aicr.org\/assets\/can-prevent\/docs\/2019-Survey.pdf\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a 2019 national survey<\/a> by the American Institute for Cancer Research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Research has shown that the more alcohol a person drinks \u2014 particularly the more a person consumes regularly, over time \u2014 the greater the risk of cancer.
