And some fear that, based on the new analysis, the influential dietary guidelines may fail to address recent research into the harms of drinking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The guidelines are revised once every five years, and there have been growing concerns <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.niaaa.nih.gov\/publications\/surveillance-reports\/surveillance121#fig1\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">about rising alcohol consumption<\/a> in the United States in recent decades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"Dropzone-1\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\" data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cThis report is a thinly veiled effort to undo the growing evidence that alcohol causes cancer and is increasingly associated with serious health outcomes,\u201d said Diane Riibe, who co-founded the U.S. Alcohol Policy Alliance, a nonprofit focused on the harms of alcohol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The report did note a small but significantly heightened risk of breast cancer associated with moderate drinking, but said there wasn\u2019t enough evidence to link moderate consumption to other cancers.
