In 2022, 3,571 people died of causes linked to cold weather, the study\u2019s authors said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cEven though we are in this warming world, cold-related deaths are still a public health issue in the U.S.,\u201d said Michael Liu, a student at Harvard Medical School and the lead author of the study.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Winters in much of America are now, on average, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/climate-matters\/2024-winter-package\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">4 degrees<\/a> warmer than they were a half-century ago, according to Climate Central, an independent research group.
