In recent months, some A.I. start-ups have <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/29\/technology\/ai-startups-financial-reality.html\" title>struggled to find their footing<\/a> and been sold or <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/08\/08\/technology\/ai-start-ups-google-microsoft-amazon.html\" title>folded into<\/a> larger companies. Even the fastest-growing companies are burning enormous sums of cash. OpenAI <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/27\/technology\/openai-chatgpt-investors-funding.html\" title>recently told investors<\/a> that it expected to lose $5 billion this year on $3.7 billion in sales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Investors remain bullish. Databricks, which was founded in 2013 and provides software tools for storing and analyzing large amounts of online data, said it expected in January to have more than $3 billion of \u201crevenue run rate,\u201d or monthly revenue extrapolated for a full year.
