They are incredibly maneuverable. They are capable of hovering indefinitely\u201d \u2014 an adaptation driven by a love of energy-rich nectar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">As vehicles without crews have taken over the skies in conflicts, hummingbirds have become the subject of <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foreignaffairs.com\/united-states\/ai-america-ready-wars-future-ukraine-israel-mark-milley-eric-schmidt\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">new research<\/a>. The Flight Lab, accustomed to looking at the ecology, evolution and biomechanics of bird flight, is part of a broad effort, funded largely by U.S. defense dollars, to build a better robotic hummingbird.
