The misleading narratives have already spurred lawsuits and could fuel additional legal claims that may slow the electoral process or the declaration of winners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI don\u2019t know exactly how to measure it, but it certainly feels like an enormous problem,\u201d said Amy Cohen, the executive director of the National Association of State Election Directors. \u201cIt just feels so, so difficult to get our arms around it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Here are five reasons this year\u2019s early voting period is flooded with falsehoods.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"css-15h6bi9 e1gnsphs0\" id=\"link-6a1c0452\"><span>1. Early voting has increased<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">More voters have <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/21\/us\/politics\/2024-early-voting.html\" title>embraced early voting<\/a> and mail-in voting since 2020, creating a longer period of interaction between voters and election officials.
