Foods distributed from that facility and containing listeria were linked to nine deaths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">And BrucePac, another meat provider, this month <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/brucepac-recalls-ready-eat-meat-and-poultry-products-due-possible-listeria\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">recalled more than 10 million pounds<\/a> of meats and poultry products because of listeria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Food plants and facilities are common epicenters of listeria outbreaks because of the bacteria\u2019s ability to survive cold climates, Dr. Ray said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt survives on damp surfaces, including in factories and food preparation facilities,\u201d he said. \u201cIt can be shared by animals, including livestock, that don\u2019t appear sick.
