Most of the books focused on the transition from monogamy to nonmonogamy, but Cassidy, who goes by them\/them pronouns, was \u201cfreshly divorced, hadn\u2019t really dated as an adult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI was winging it,\u201d said Cassidy, who has since become a relationship coach who specializes in consensual nonmonogamy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Recently, however, there has been an explosion of literature on the topic, including books about polyamory and other types of open relationships. And more people are interested, too: A <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/social-trends\/2023\/09\/14\/views-of-divorce-and-open-marriages\/#:~:text=Across%20age%20groups%2C%20young%20adults,go%20down%20steadily%20with%20age.\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">2023 Pew Research survey<\/a> found that 51 percent of adults under 30 considered open marriages \u201cacceptable,\u201d and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/0092623X.2016.1178675?journalCode=usmt20\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a 2016 study of single adults in the United States<\/a> has shown that more than 20 percent have experimented with some form of consensual nonmonogamy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">But even as these relationship styles become more common, there are lots of details to figure out. Partners have to decide on the approach that works best for them.
