So she took one whenever she remembered \u2014 and may have ended up taking more than her prescribed daily dose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The delusions that she experienced made her feel euphoric and highly energetic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI felt like my brain was exploding with connections,\u201d she said. In her mind, she was a \u201csuper detective\u201d who was uncovering the people and organizations that were secretly engaging in child sex trafficking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"Dropzone-1\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\" data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">She even began to believe that someone was drugging her and her baby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Psychosis and mania <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/19171629\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">are each known side effects<\/a> of stimulant medications, and the Food and Drug Administration has added <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/cder\/daf\/index.cfm?event=overview.process&amp;ApplNo=021303\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">warnings<\/a> to the medications\u2019 labels saying that they may cause symptoms like hallucinations, delusional thinking or mania. But these side effects are considered rare \u2014 experienced by an estimated 1 in 1,000 patients \u2014 and have not been extensively researched. It can take months for someone to fully recover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/psychiatryonline.org\/doi\/10.1176\/appi.ajp.20230329\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">new study<\/a> published on Thursday in The American Journal of Psychiatry suggests that dosage may play a role.
