But as soon as they were released, their access to the medicine ended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">As their cravings surged, they were re-entering society at high risk for withdrawal, relapse and overdose \u2014 dangers that newly released prisoners confront <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMsa064115\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">nationwide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cA lot of these inmates are our neighbors and it\u2019s in our best interest to assimilate them back into the community, but some would end up dying,\u201d said the Somerset County sheriff, Dale P.
