He and other experts said the people who are most vulnerable to poor sleep during a heat wave are low-income families who don\u2019t have air-conditioning in their homes, as well as older adults or people with underlying health conditions that make them more susceptible to <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/24\/well\/live\/excessive-heat-wave-weather-health.html\" title>heat-related illness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">That\u2019s why when temperatures rise, it\u2019s essential to have a plan to keep cool when you sleep. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"css-1u37br4 eoo0vm40\" id=\"link-7a501571\">How Heat Affects Sleep<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The body\u2019s core temperature naturally <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30454599\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">drops<\/a> during sleep, but hot environments can prevent the body from properly cooling.
