Here\u2019s what to know, and how to stay safe during scorching temperatures. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"css-1u37br4 eoo0vm40\" id=\"link-61894974\">Medications that may raise risk<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Diuretics, which doctors prescribe to manage heart failure, kidney disease or high blood pressure, help your body reduce fluid through <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK548808\/#:~:text=OVERVIEW,heart%20failure%2C%20and%20edematous%20states.\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">frequent urination<\/a>. But they can also cause <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6470661\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">dehydration<\/a> or lead to an imbalance of electrolytes such as potassium or salt, which make it harder for the body to regulate its temperature, said Allison Hill, the director of practice implementation and professional affairs at the American Pharmacists Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">This can be especially dangerous in extreme heat, which also leads to dehydration.
