And all of this comes on the heels of 2024, the <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2025\/01\/09\/climate\/2024-heat-record-climate-goal.html\" title>hottest calendar year<\/a> in recorded history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The world is getting hotter, faster. A report published last week found that human-caused global warming is now <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/essd.copernicus.org\/articles\/17\/2641\/2025\/\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">increasing by 0.27 degrees<\/a> Celsius per decade. That rate was recorded at 0.2 degrees in the 1970s, and has been growing since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">This doesn\u2019t surprise scientists who have been crunching the numbers. For years, measurements have followed predictions that the rate of <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/12\/04\/climate\/climate-change-acceleration.html\" title>warming in the atmosphere would speed up<\/a>.
