Rubin Observatory would <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/19\/science\/telescope-vera-rubin-dark-matter.html\" title>transform scientific studies<\/a> of dark matter, dark energy and the faintest corners of the cosmos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">All six panelists, each holding a leadership role related to the observatory, were women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The message, intentional or not, was clear: The legacy of the astronomer <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/27\/science\/vera-rubin-astronomist-who-made-the-case-for-dark-matter-dies-at-88.html\" title>Vera C. Rubin<\/a>, for whom the observatory was named, was not just the way her work revolutionized scientists\u2019 understanding of the universe.
