Despite the ick factor, the insect does not transmit disease, nor does it cause harm beyond the mild irritation where its needlelike mouth pierces the skin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">That relationship, it turns out, has been going on for much longer than previously known.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">According to <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/royalsocietypublishing.org\/doi\/full\/10.1098\/rsbl.2025.0061\" title rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a new study<\/a> published in the journal Biology Letters, the bedbug\u2019s long affair with humans began about 245,000 years ago.
